REMOVING Removal     
1 Connect quiescent current retention device   *WH58.30-Z-1012-09A 
DANGER Risk of explosion  from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury  through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged leadacid batteries No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking.
Wear acid-protective gloves, clothing and eye protection. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

2 Disconnect ground cable of battery

3.1 Remove radio

3.2 Remove/install operating, display and control module with COMAND (code 352a) operating and display system

4 Remove rear passenger compartment floor covering    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR68.20-P-4800M
5.1 Open right front and rear cable ducts    
5.2 Open left front cable duct    
6 Remove armrest with console IMPORTANT Remove storage box with hinges (to be replaced by a new storage box with handset mounting).  
7 Remove left front and right seats

8 Remove and install SAM control module with fuse and relay box, left front IMPORTANT Do not remove completely, only do so far enough to enable an additional cable to be pulled through from driver's footwell and connected to fuse and relay box.

9 Remove rear seat and rear seat backrest    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Remove rear seat backrest. AR91.12-P-1620MA
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Remove rear backrest with single seats (code 401). AR91.12-P-1620M
10 Remove seat adjustment device with single seats (code 401).  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR91.10-P-1450M
11 Remove paneling on C-pillar    
12 Separate equipment plate below right rear seat    
13 Remove trunk lining on right-hand side    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR68.30-P-4600M
INSTALLING Install     
14 Retrofit fiber optic wiring harness   AN82.70-P-0002-01MMM 
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Cover optical waveguide NOTESDo not kink or stretch D2B fiber optic.  AR82.95-P-0005-01A
    IMPORTANT Install covers on fiber-optic coupling and equipment connector.  
15 Retrofit telephone cable harness IMPORTANT Voltage supply wiring harness AN82.70-P-0002-03MMM 
16 Install CTEL D2B transceiver unit    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR82.70-P-8911M
17 Retrofit CTEL/GPS antenna IMPORTANT Only if necessary. AZ82.70-P-0001-08IA
18 Install handset IMPORTANT Install new storage box with handset.  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR82.70-P-8915M
19 Retrofit handsfree microphone IMPORTANT Only if necessary. AN82.70-P-8969-04MA 
20 Fit remaining parts to vehicle    
21 Perform startup and function check IMPORTANT Carry out control unit coding (CTEL) using STAR diagnosis
