Brake Pads (Front & Rear Floating Caliper): Removal
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheels.
- Check lining thickness of brake pads. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS . If under specification, replace brake pads.
- Disconnect brake pad contact sensor connectors (1), if applicable. See Fig 1 .
- Remove brake caliper guide bolts (31c).
- Remove brake caliper (31a, 31b) from wheel carrier. See BRAKE CALIPER (FRONT FLOATING) and BRAKE CALIPER (REAR, FIXED & FLOATING) .
- Remove brake caliper together with brake pads (31g) and fasten to one side. Hang brake caliper up with wire to relieve strain on brake hose.
- Remove brake pads and brake pad contact sensors from brake pad backing plates if applicable.
- Press caliper piston (47) back using resetting device (031).
- Remove slide rails (31e).
- Installation is the reverse of removal. Replace slide rails (31e) of brake pads (31g) at wheel carrier (33). Replace brake pad contact sensor if defective, if applicable. Always install brake pad contact sensor on inner brake pad, if applicable. Insert inner brake pad with riveted spring into caliper piston then insert outer brake pad into brake caliper (31a, 31b) and install brake caliper. Replace self-locking (35) and guide bolts (31c) with new fasteners. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
NOTE:
It is not necessary to remove brake hoses.
CAUTION:
Risk of accident when starting vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when service brake is operated for the first time after repair work.
