Brake Caliper (Rear, Fixed & Floating): Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels.
  2. NOTE: Seal off line connections immediately with plugs. Do not allow brake fluid supply reservoir to run completely empty.
  3. Disconnect brake hose (51) at brake line (5). See Fig 1 or Fig 2 .
  4. Disconnect brake hose from brake caliper (31b). If removing a floating brake caliper, go to step  7 . If removing a fixed brake caliper, go to next step.
  5. Unplug brake pad contact sensor connector (8), if installed.
  6. Unscrew left rear brake pad contact sensor (S10/3), if installed.
  7. Remove brake pads and brake caliper bolts (35) from fixed caliper and remove brake caliper.
  8. Remove floating caliper together with brake pads by removing brake caliper bolts (35) and pulling brake caliper out and down (arrow) from wheel carrier.
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Replace brake pad contact sensor self-locking bolt if removed. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Bleed hydraulic brake system. See BLEEDING PROCEDURE  under BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM. Ensure dash light goes out.
