Parking Brake
- Operate parking brake pedal and check pedal travel. If pedal travel is not within tolerance range, adjust parking brake. Control force on parking brake pedal with a pulled notch parking brake is 27-54 pound-force (130-240 N) to achieve one notch. Control force for a pushed notch parking brake is the same to achieve 5 notches.
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels
- Pre-tension automatic cable slack adjuster by turning detent eccentric bolt (g) to the left using appropriate size Allen wrench (approximately half a turn) and simultaneously push backwards in slot until spring-loaded detent eccentric (b) engages with raised section (h) in hold down clip (d). See Fig 1
.
- Using a screwdriver to rotate adjusting wheel (105) until brake shoes contact parking brake drum. Turn adjusting wheel from left to right until brake disc can no longer be turned by hand. See Fig 2
. Adjustment procedure is the same for opposite side.
- Turn back adjusting wheel until wheel or brake disc can be turned freely by hand. When releasing adjusting wheels ensure that left and right sides are adjusted by same number of teeth (approximately 5 teeth).
- Release automatic slack adjuster by lift center hold down clip (arrow) using a screwdriver so that cable slack adjuster sets itself automatically. See Fig 3
.
- Operate parking brake pedal several times and check pedal travel, then release parking brake.
- Ensure brake discs turn freely.
- Install disassembled components in reverse order. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
