Remove/install rear seat belts - AR91.40-P-0681GM

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by release of spring in the automatic belt retractor. Never disassemble automatic belt retractors. AS91.00-Z-0002-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units. Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100°C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply. AS91.00-Z-0001-01A

1 Activate service mode in Telematic Alarm Identification on Demand (emergency call system) (TELE AID) Only in model 463.244/322/332 with code (ET2) TELE AID - car telephone emergency call system,

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
2 Disconnect battery ground line AR54.10-P-0003G

3 Check seat belts and buckles for external damage and correct operation   AP91.40-P-9150GI
4 Fold rear seat down forwards    
5 Remove stowage box (3) IMPORTANT Only with code (V53) stowage box and luggage compartment cover. AR68.72-P-0010GK
6 Remove bottom side wall paneling (4) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure that clips are complete.  
7 Pry off cap on seat belt guide bracket (1) and fold up    
8 Remove nut (2) at seat belt guide bracket (1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA91.40-P-1005-01C 
9 Remove screw/bolt (5) from belt end fitting (6) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA91.40-P-1001-01C 
10 Remove bolt (7) at rear automatic belt retractor (8) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Check that catch is properly located.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA91.40-P-1006-01C 
11 Disconnect connector (9) of left rear emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/6) or right rear emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/7)    
12 Remove rear automatic belt retractor (8) NOTES Under no circumstances must oil or grease be used to eliminate noises, otherwise malfunctions may occur. Automatic belt retractors that have been opened are no longer under warranty.
Noises at inertia reel during belt retraction are caused by operation. The only available response to negative customer feedback regarding unacceptable noise levels is to replace the seat belt assembly in its entirety. If the seat belt with emergency tensioning retractor is replaced, the defective seat belt with emergency tensioning retractor must be disposed of properly: ↓

Render emergency tensioning retractors unusable
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Pay attention to left and right versions of inertia reel.

13 Install in the reverse order

15 Read out fault memory IMPORTANT STAR DIAGNOSIS
Stored faults which can result from cables being disconnected or from simulation during removal and installation or test work, have to be processed and erased in the fault memories after completing the work.
