Check lining thickness of brake pads and condition of brake disks - AP42.10-P-4251G

MODEL 460, 461, 463

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by handling hot or glowing objects. Wear safety gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
1 Hoist vehicle with lifting platform until wheels are free    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Lift/jack up vehicle   AR00.60-P-1000G
2 Remove wheel-and-tire assembly IMPORTANT Vehicles with drum brakes: Only detach complete wheels of front axle. AP40.10-P-4050G
MEASURING Measure     
3 Lining thickness of brake pads using vernier caliper Brake pads installed. Check that the lining thickness is such that the wear limit will not be exceeded before the next maintenance service; if necessary subject to separate repair order: ↓
Replace brake pads:
 
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Remove/install brake pads on fixed caliper Model 460, 461, 463 AR42.10-P-0161GG
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Remove/install brake pad on floating brake caliper Model 461, 463 with disk brakes on rear axle, except model 463.270 /271 AR42.10-P-0160GG
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Model 463.270 /271 AR42.10-P-0160GX
    Brake pad wear limit, disk brake *BE42.10-P-1001-10A 
4 Pull stop plug (arrows) out of test openings and measure lining thickness of brake shoes IMPORTANT Vehicles with drum brakes. Check that the lining thickness is such that the wear limit will not be exceeded before the next maintenance service; if necessary subject to separate repair order: ↓  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Replace drum brake shoes. AR42.10-P-0165GG
    Brake lining wear limit, drum brake *BE42.10-P-1002-10A 
INSPECT Checking     
5 Check condition of the brake disks IMPORTANT Check for score marks, cracks and burn marks. Hairline cracks can occur due to high stress. The brake disks only need to be replaced if the cracks exceed a length of 25 mm. With open cracks and score marks deeper than 0.5 mm, subject to separate repair order: ↓
Replace brake disks:
 
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Remove/install front axle brake disk Model 460, 461, model 463 except model 463.270 /271 AR42.10-P-0220GG
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Remove/install rear axle brake disc Model 461, model 463 except model 463.270 /271 AR42.10-P-0240GG
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Remove/install brake disk on front and rear axle Model 463.270 /271 AR42.10-P-0220GX
6 Check brake disks for axial runout IMPORTANT If necessary.  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Check brake disks for axial runout   AR42.10-P-0265GG
MEASURING Measure     
7 Measure brake disk thickness using MPECIAL TOOL vernier caliper IMPORTANT Check that the disk thickness is such that the wear limit will not be exceeded before the next brake pad change; if necessary subject to separate repair order: ↓
Replace brake disks:
 
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Remove/install front axle brake disk Model 460, 461, model 463 except model 463.270 /271 AR42.10-P-0220GG
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Remove/install rear axle brake disc Model 461, model 463 except model 463.270 /271 AR42.10-P-0240GG
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Remove/install brake disk on front and rear axle Model 463.270 /271 AR42.10-P-0220GX
    Front axle brake disk thickness *BE42.10-P-1001-08C 
    Rear axle brake disk thickness *BE42.10-P-1001-09C 
    MPECIAL TOOL Vernier caliper Fig 2
8 Install in the reverse order
