Parking Brake Cable Slack Adjustment Procedure

NOTE: Numbers and letters in parenthesis refer to letters and numbers in illustrations.

NOTE: Before adjusting slack in parking brake cable, adjust parking brake shoes. See PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENTS  .

1. Press parking brake pedal with a foot force of 38 pound-force (170 N). If parking brake pedal can be depressed by more than 5 notches, go to next step.
2. Fold up rear seat cushion and remove cover (1). See Fig 1 .
3. Adjust length of parking brake cables (85 and 86). See Fig 2 . To do this tighten nut (89) 2 revolutions and check parking brake pedal travel again. If necessary tighten nut again until parking brake pedal can be depressed by 5 notches when operated with 38 pound-force (170 N) of pressure. Ensure rear wheels turn freely.
4. Installation is the reverse of removal.
