Disassembling

Disassemble transmission housing:
Transmission 716.6 (cars except model 209.4) without Sequentronic automated manual transmission (SEQ). See DISASSEMBLE/ASSEMBLE TRANSMISSION HOUSING .

Disassemble main shaft (27) See Fig 1. Also, see DISASSEMBLE MAIN SHAFT .NOTE: Only sleeve-type main shafts can be disassembled.NOTE: Main shaft converted to sleeve type (Except transmission 716.643 [vans]). See MAIN SHAFT CHANGED TO SLEEVE VERSION in GENERAL article.NOTE: The synchronizer bodies, sliders, shift sleeves, synchronizer rings, cone rings and friction rings must not be mixed up. Note correlation and installation position carefully to avoid mixing up.
Use Puller (000 589 65 33 00). See Figure.
Use Jaw (000 589 87 33 00). See Figure.
Use Pliers for outer locking ring. See Figure.
Checking

Assembling

Assemble main shaft.NOTE: The synchronizer bodies, sliders, shift sleeves, synchronizer rings, cone rings and friction rings must not be mixed up. Note correlation and installation position carefully to avoid mixing up. See ASSEMBLING MAIN SHAFT .NOTE: Replace locking rings and synchronizer units.
