The electric air pump is positioned at the top front of the engine.

Task

The electrical air pump compresses fresh air and provides this for air injection into the cylinder heads.

Function

Actuation of the electrical air pump takes place during "Start" and at a coolant temperature below 20°C.

The electrical air pump is controlled via the air pump relay (N10/1kO, K40/7kN) by the ME control unit(N3/10).

For reasons of durability, control is limited to a maximum of 2.5 min.

Due to air injection, afterburning may take place in the outlet ducts and the catalytic convertors, which brings the catalytic convertors more quickly to the operating temperature.

The delivery rate is maximum 40 kg/h.
