Brake Caliper (Front & Rear Floating): Inspection

If piston (47) is rusted tight, install new caliper (31a or 31b). See Figure . Check piston and cylinder bore of caliper and replace if necessary. Remove deposits on piston using a soft brass wire brush or a rough shop towel. DO NOT clean piston with a polishing or emery cloth because this will damage chrome-plated surface. Replace caliper piston if chrome-plated surface is damaged. Clean aluminum version with anodized surfaces (piston and housing bore) with soft rag only. If caliper piston is jammed or if the cylinder bores are scored or rusted replace cylinder housing. Remove small, light rust spots in cylinder bore with a polishing cloth; remove worse rust spots in front of groove for caliper piston seal using fine-grained emery paper (grain size 380-500). When carrying out repairs, housing diameter in outer part of bore may be exceeded by up to 0.1 mm when cleaning with a polishing cloth.
