• Up-to-date navigation data available

General 

The route guidance through voice output function is an assistance function that assists the driver without distracting him from the traffic. The destination-oriented navigation of the navigation system is supported by voice outputs with the following information:

• Directional instructions
• Name of the next road to turn into
• Turning maneuver (with code (ZU8) USA version)

Voice output can be emitted in the following languages:

• English
• English (American and British)
• French
• Spanish
• Portuguese
• Italian
• Dutch
• Swedish
• Danish
• Greek
• Turkish
• Russian
• Czech
• Japanese
• Korean
• Chinese

Special information on the voice output is issued in the following cases:

• Destination lies in area where driving is not possible
• Destination lies in area where driving is only possible to a limited extent
• Destination in partially-attributed area (without code (ZU8) USA version))
• Route via ferry (without code (ZU8) USA version)
• Route via toll road (without code (ZU8) USA version)

  Additional messages:

• Start of route calculation
• Destination or intermediate destination reached
• Dynamic route guidance on basis of route influencing by traffic messages

(without code (ZU8) USA version)

Function sequence 

The COMAND operating, display and controller unit's navigation processor links words segments during a voice output to form complete instructions or information.

With model 463.249/271 or with model 463.248/270/341 with code (E66) Sound system (Harman/Kardon) the voice output is provided by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the sound system amplifier to the speakers.

With model 463.248/270/341 without code (E66) Sound system (Harman/Kardon) and with model 463.247/254/303/340 the voice output is provided by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via direct lines to the speakers.

Operating instructions 

When voice output is active the announcement volume can be adjusted using the following components:

• Using the COMAND operating, display and controller unit's volume control
• The + and - buttons for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1) of the right multifunction steering wheel button group

For model 463.249/271 the audio, telephone and navigation components can be operated using the multifunction steering wheel button group only as of 1.6.07.
