Depending on the equipment installed one of the following control units will be installed, hereafter referred to as the "audio unit":

Radio (A2) (with code (EF5) MB Audio 20 CD radio, (NTG 2.5))
COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) (with code (EU1) COMAND, APS)

Function requirements

Status of circuit 30 "ON" or circuit 15R "ON".
One mobile phone network is available in sufficient strength and quality
Mobile phone system operating error-free
Mobile phone and audio equipment switched on
Enabled Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card inserted in mobile phone
Compatible mobile phone inserted into UPCI [UHI] cell phone holder (Universal Portable Cell Phone Interface) (A34/15), which is connected to Bluetooth module (A34/7) (with code (EH2) Comfort telephony), or Bluetooth-capable mobile phone authorized in vehicle and on the audio equipment (without code (EH2) Comfort telephony)

So that a bluetooth-capable mobile phone that is authorized on the audio equipment can be operated in the vehicle, the mobile phone must support the hands-free profile (HFP) 1.0 or 1.5. More information is available under:

General information about registering a mobile phone system

If set on the mobile phone, enter the Personal Identification Number (PIN). The mobile phone system then sets up a link to the nearest base station controller and relays the data to the mobile service switching center via the base station controller. Access authorization for the mobile telephone network is granted by the authentification center after the necessary data has been checked in the mobile service switching center.

After successful log-in to the mobile telephone network, the name of the mobile telephone network is indicated on the mobile phone screen.

If the nearest mobile service switching center is not the one in which the user was entered in the home location register when the user's cellular mobile telephone was logged in, the user is registered there in the visitor location register. The mobile service switching center then establishes contact with the mobile service switching center, in which the user is registered as a mobile service user in the home location register, checks the necessary data, and grants access authorization to the mobile telephone network.

The mobile service switching center therefore automatically receives information about the location of the subscriber and can route the incoming telephone calls to the subscriber for as long as he/she is logged into the mobile telephone network. Any location change is registered in the mobile service switching center.
