Brake light actuation function sequence

Operation of the service brake is detected by the brake light switch and read-in directly by the ESP control unit.

The ESP control unit then sends the "Brake light ON" request to the EZS control unit via the drive train CAN (CAN C). This routes the request via the interior CAN (CAN B) and it is then read in by the rear SAM. The "Brake light ON" request is then sent redundantly to the rear SAM via a direct line.

The rear SAM then actuates the brake lights and the center high-mounted brake lamp.

The request is also forwarded via the interior CAN to the trailer recognition control unit, which then actuates the brake lights on the trailer via the trailer hitch socket (13-pin).

IMPORTANT For vehicles with a gasoline engine, operation of the service brake is also detected by the BAS release switch and read in directly by the ESP control unit. This signal is transmitted directly to the rear SAM.
