- Communication between the emergency call system control unit and the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) is operating error-free
- Triggering of a manual TELE AID emergency call by pressing the SOS push button (S93/3) in the overhead control panel control unit (N70) for longer than t = 0.5 s or triggering of an automatic TELE AID emergency call through the crash signal and receipt of the crash level from the restraint systems control unit
Emergency call, general
In the event that the driver has an emergency in a remote area, a service center technician can use the data received (SMS (SMS = Short Message Service) and a voice connection) from the emergency call system control unit to obtain an overview of the situation in the vehicle interior and then initiate the appropriate emergency measures.
A TELE AID emergency call can be triggered manually or automatically. The aim of TELE AID emergency calls is:
- Automatic alerting of the rescue services after an accident
- Alerting of rescue workers at the press of a button (own emergency situation, observed accident)
- Reduction in rescue times through fast emergency notification with details on exact location involved
The emergency call function consists of the following subfunctions:
- Manual triggering of TELE AID emergency call function sequence
- Automatic triggering of TELE AID emergency call function sequence
- Function sequence for transmission of emergency call data and communication with the service center
Manual triggering of TELE AID emergency call function sequence
The emergency call system control unit reads in the SOS pushbutton switch directly via a discrete line.
Abusive triggering of the TELE AID emergency call is an illegal act!
Automatic triggering of TELE AID emergency call function sequence
The emergency call system control unit receives the crash signal from the restraint systems control unit directly via a discrete line. The emergency call system control unit receives the crash level, in addition to the crash signal, from the restraint systems control unit.
Function sequence for transmission of emergency call data and communication with the service center
After triggering a manual or automatic TELE AID emergency call, the emergency call system control unit automatically sends an SMS with the following data to the service center via the communication module that is integrated in the emergency call system control unit:
- Vehicle position, direction of travel and history
- Vehicle data and crash evaluation (severity of accident)
- Customer data of the emergency service provider
A voice connection to the service center is set up at the same time via the communication module that is integrated in the emergency call system control unit.
Any active audio sources are muted during the voice connection by a signal from the emergency call system control unit to the sound system amplifier (N40/9).
The communication module transmits and receives the cellular phone signals via a discrete line via the radio and cell phone antenna splitter (A28/1) and the telephone and fax antenna (A2/22). If connection to the service center cannot be established when an automatic TELE AID emergency call is triggered, then a voice connection is automatically set up using the emergency number "911" and the listed data has to be communicated verbally. If a manual or automatic TELE AID emergency call is active, it is indicated by one of the two red LEDs that are integrated in the SOS push button flashing.
In the event of a manual or automatic TELE AID emergency call, other vehicle-related services (e.g. MB-Info call) are interrupted.
In the event of a malfunction of the telephone and fax antenna (defective e.g. because of a rollover) the emergency call system control unit automatically uses the emergency call antenna (A2/52) to transmit cellular phone signals.
