Clamp and unclamp front spring Risk of injury from being trapped or crushed when working on preloaded springs or spring bodies - AR32.20-P-0200-05D

Only use approved clamping devices and if appropriate also screen off the danger area. Check special tools for damage and function, (visual inspection). Wear safety gloves.

IMPORTANTClamping unit 

Push clamping plates (01a) into clamping unit (01) until they lock in position. Press pin (arrow) to remove the clamping plates.

    Clamping (on vehicle) 

  1. Install clamping unit (01) with clamping plates on the front spring so that at least 5 spring coils can be preloaded.

    IMPORTANT

    The front spring must be located behind the clamping plate lug (enlarged view).

  2. Clamp front spring.
  3. Mark position of clamping plates relative to the spring coil with oil-bases chalk (arrow).
  4. Unclamping (on vehicle) 

  5. Attach upper rubber mount to front spring with adhesive tape (to prevent it from slipping).
  6. Unclamp front spring.

IMPORTANT

Ensure correct installed position of rubber mounts.

Lower rubber mount (13b), left: Arrow on rubber mount points to the front in direction of travel.

Lower rubber mount (13b), right: Arrow on rubber mount points to the back opposite to the direction of travel.

Clamping and unclamping (front spring removed) 

Clamp clamping unit (01) in vise and clamp and unclamp front spring (12).

IMPORTANT

The front spring must be located behind the clamping plate lug.

If a new front spring is installed, the marking must be transferred from the old front spring.
