- Predrill the drilling points (2l and 2r) marked by center punch marks to 13 mm dia. and widen to 70 mm dia., for example using a keyhole saw.
- Remove underfloor protection in the shaded area for the holes (1l, 1r) for the crossmember.
- Pre-drill the drilling points (1l and 1r) marked by chisel punches with dia. 13 mm and widen to dia. 18 mm.
- Expose punch mark (3l) in the shaded area of the left longitudinal member and pre-drill with dia.13 mm and widen to dia. 15 mm.
- Treat all holes and contact surfaces for parts still to be installed with anticorrosion agent, and treat surfaces not covered by the parts with underbody sealant.
- Insert right stiffening beam (4r) through hole (2r) in vehicle longitudinal member.
Stiffening beam is marked with "R".
- Insert countertab (5) in longitudinal member.
- Screw on stiffening beam (4r) with self-locking nuts (6) but do not tighten.
- Insert left stiffening beam (4l) through hole (2l) in vehicle longitudinal member.
Stiffening beam is marked with "L".
- Insert countertab (5) into left vehicle longitudinal member through stiffening beam (4l) (figure at bottom left).
- Screw on stiffening beam (4l) with self-locking nuts (6) but do not tighten (Figure on right).
- Position crossmember (8) and screw in 2 microencapsulated bolts (7) in each case M12x70 mm in each case finger-tight into the right (4r) and left (4l) stiffening beam but do not tighten.
- Align trailer coupling.
- Tighten the microencapsulated bolts (7) and crossmember to the vehicle to the specified tightening torque
- Tighten self-locking nuts (6) to counter tab of left stiffening beam (4l) (Figure on bottom left) and to counter tab of right stiffening beam (4r) (Figure on bottom right) to the specified torque
