- -Slit the existing grommet (23) and insert trailer hitch wiring harness (1) into the grommet.
- Insert 3-pin coupling and 13-pin clutch from trailer hitch wiring harness (1) in the socket housing (10) and seal with grommet (17)n.
Ensure that the sealing fold of the grommet (17) contacts the socket housing (10) without any creases.
- Fasten the socket housing (10) to the bracket (19) of the trailer hitch using three 4.8x32 mm sheet metal screws.
- Fasten the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) to the eyes of the crossmember (20) using tie straps (see arrows).
- Guide trailer coupling wiring harness (1) through the hole on the underfloor (see detail) and place into storage area recess.
Shown on model 203
- Route trailer coupling wiring harness (1) along the longitudinal member through opening (see arrow) and onto the wheelhouse and fix in place with felt strips.
- To extend the ground branch off line on the trailer hitch wiring harness (1), prepare an 800 mm long line with 2.5 mm2 with a 6 mm dia round cable lug in each case.
- Connect the extended ground line (21) to the ground cable branch-off line from the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) with a soldered connector (see magnified section).
Cut the round cable lug off the ground branch-off line on the trailer hitch wiring harness (1).
- Route the extended ground line (21) from the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) along existing lines to the left taillamp and fix in position.
- Fasten cable lug to ground (left taillamp in luggage compartment) (W6/1).
- Route trailer hitch wiring harness (1) along existing lines over the left wheelhouse (Figure on left) to the left cable duct and fix in position up to the branch-off line (see arrow in Figure on right).
- Route cable branch off lines, red/blue (rt/bl) and brown/white (br/ws) to the rear fuse box (F4).
- Fasten cables with adhesive pads and tie straps supplied (Figure on left).
-
- - Insert the fuse block (B) supplied.
- Insert plug of the red auxiliary line (rt) in the free chamber E of the plug position 12 in the fuse block B (see magnified section on right).
- Route red cable (rt) along existing cables to battery positive terminal and fix in place.
- Fasten the cable lug of the red line (rt) to the positive battery terminal (see magnified section on the left).
- - Insert the fuse block (B) supplied.
- Insert red/blue line (rt/bl) in the free chamber (D) of the plug position 12 in the fuse block (B).
- In the rear fuse box F4) assign the fuse plug position 12 with a 25A fuse (arrow).
It should be pointed out to the customer that fuse 12 must only be fitted when towing a trailer, otherwise a remote consumer could discharge the battery.
- Route the brown/white cable (br/ws) behind the rear fuse box (F4) to the pneumatic control unit with combined functions (A37) and fasten by means of the adhesive pads and tie straps supplied.
- Detach the white coupling from the pneumatic control unit with combined functions (A37) and open (see magnified section).
-
- - Insert brown/white cable (br/ws) into free contact 2 of white coupling (see arrow in detail).
If chamber 2 is assigned, adapt the brown/white line (br/ws) with voltage distributor to the line from chamber 2 a (Remove plug-in sleeve ).
- - Insert brown/white cable (br/ws) onto free contact 15 of white coupling (see arrow).
Vehicles as of 01.03.1997
If chamber 15 is assigned, adapt the brown/white cable (br/ws) to the line from chamber 15 with voltage distributor (Remove plug-in sleeve ).
- - Insert brown/white cable (br/ws) into free contact 2 of white coupling (see arrow in detail).
- Expose the black/green line (sw/gn) and black/white line (sw/ws) from the cable duct and check with multimeter signal.
Left rear turn signal lamp has cable color black/green (sw/gn), Right rear turn signal lamp has cable color black/white (sw/ws).
- Connect the black/green line (sw/gn) from the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) to the black/green line (right rear turn signal lamp) by means of a voltage distributor (see magnified section).
- Connect the black/white line (sw/ws) from the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) to the black/white line (left rear turn signal lamp) by means of a voltage distributor (see magnified section).
-
- - Expose brown/white line from the cable duct.
- Expose brown/white line from the trailer hitch wiring harness (1).
- Connect the lines by means of a voltage distributor (see magnified section).
- - Expose brown/white line from the cable duct.
- Expose gray/green line (gr/gn) for rear fog lamp from the cable duct and cut through.
- Connect the green/white line end (gn/ws) from the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) to the gray/green line end (gr/gn) by means of voltage distributor, coming from the light module (N7-1)
- Connect gray/green line end (gr/gn) from the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) by means of a voltage distributor to the gray/green line end (gr/gn) which goes to the left taillamp (E3)
