Notes on installing a trailer coupling - AH31.10-P-1000-02FF

Model 210

IMPORTANT The following applies in the Federal Republic of Germany:

The trailer coupling installed must be submitted to an officially approved authority for inspection. In export countries, the appropriate licensing regulations or legal requirements for the installation of a trailer coupling must be taken into account.

IMPORTANT The body sealing compound and underbody sealant must be removed from all the body mounting points of the trailer coupling. The mounting points should then be cleaned with a commercially available cleaning agent. Apply anticorrosion paint to bare-metal areas of the body.

IMPORTANT Trailer couplings are homologated safety parts. They must be fitted to the vehicle by trained personnel. Trailer couplings which have been damaged in an accident, by bottoming or by an impact from behind must be replaced complete; subsequent modifications such as bending, machining, welding, etc. are not permitted.

NOTES The diameter of the coupling ball, measured with a caliper gauge, must measure at least 49 mm at all points. The ball must be greased before use to reduce wear. Advise the customer accordingly.

IMPORTANT Advise the customer to read the "Trailer coupling" and "Towing a trailer" sections in the vehicle owner's manual.

IMPORTANT On model 210.025/225 with air-conditioning (code 580) or automatic air-conditioning (code 581) it is necessary to retrofit the transmission oil cooler with blower motor and a blower motor for the engine oil cooler. If code 228 stationary heater is fitted, it is necessary to install the stationary heater in the engine compartment (see installation instructions stationary heater)

In the event that the above-mentioned components are not retrofitted, this will rend the warranty/goodwill null and void.

IMPORTANT The customer must be advised that fuse 12 in the rear fuse box (F4) must only be inserted when towing a trailer - an external user could drain the vehicle battery when stationary.
