Retrofitting wiring harnesses of parktronic system (PTS) - AN54.65-P-0001-02A

  1. Cut open wiring harness of parktronic system (1) in the area of the branch to parktronic system switch (S95) and modify as illustrated.

  2. Cut off round cable lug of the brown ground cable.
  3. Strip insulation of the two brown ground cables over about 15 mm.
  4. Strip insulation of 1.5 mm 2 brown cable over about 1.7 m at both ends.
  5. Solder together all 3 brown ground cables with soldered joint.
  6. Fit du 6 mm round cable lug to the other end of the brown cable.
  7. Strip insulation of grey/blue cable over about 15 mm and extend with soldered joint and approx. 1.2 m grey/blue 0.5 mm2 cable.

  8. Run parktronic system wiring harnesses (1+2) as illustrated along the existing wiring in the vehicle.

  9. Insert connector of parktronic system (PTS), cockpit warning displays (X35/27) of parktronic system wiring harness (1) into mount in left cable duct.
  10. Strip insulation of grey/blue cable in cable duct (circuit 58 signal). Strip insulation of grey/ blue cable (f) of parktronic system wiring harness (1).
  11. Solder together grey/blue cables (f) with soldered joint.

  12. Run parktronic system wiring harness (1) as illustrated to the fuse and relay box F1.

  13. Run brown cable behind instrument cluster to ground point (W1) and connect.

  14. Connect black/red cable in fuse and relay box (F1) to fuse 14 assignment B.
  15. Connect blue/red cable in data link connector (X11/4) into contact 28.

  16. Run parktronic system wiring harness (1) from fuse and relay box as illustrated behind the left headlamp down to the left of the bumper.

  17. Attach parktronic system (PTS) bumper connector (X26/27) in wheelhousing as illustrated with self-tapping screws (8) (the attachment point has to be varied depending on vehicle equipment and engine).

  18. Run branched-off cable to the parktronic system on/off switch (S95) as illustrated to the center console and fix in place with felt (arrows).

  19. Cut through one cable of the grey/green, grey/black cables, and on models with towing device also the brown/white cables, of the standard wiring harness in the cable duct at the left B pillar.

  20. Strip the insulation of the cables of the standard wiring harness which have been cut through, over about 15 mm at both sides.
  21. Strip insulation over about 15 mm of grey/green, grey/black cables and on models with towing hitch, also brown/white cable of the parktronic system wiring harness (1).
  22. Solder together the stripped cables of the same color with soldered joint.

    IMPORTANT On vehicles without towing hitch, the brown/white cable of the parktronic system wiring harness (1) is insulated and tied back.

  23. Run parktronic system wiring harness (1) as illustrated and fix in place with cable straps and felt.

  24. Run parktronic system (PTS) rear bumper connector (X35/28) in trunk and fix on left with felt strip (6).

  25. Models as of approx. 06/96 and models with engine 119 and 602 

  26. Separate on of the green cables from the standard wiring harness (at terminal block Z89 in cable duct in right rear door) and strip insulation over about 15 mm on both sides.
  27. Strip insulation of green cable of parktronic system (PTS) wiring harness (1) over about 15 mm.
  28. Solder together stripped green cables (c) with soldered joint.
  29. Models up to 05/96 except models with engine 119 and 602 

  30. Open front right cable duct, take off right A pillar trim panel and remove knee pad below instrument panel on right and open control module box.

  31. Fit a contact spring (arrow) to the 3 m green cable. (The parts kit contains two contact springs. Select the correct contact spring depending on vehicle equipment (ASR/ETS).)

  32. Take traction system control module (N47) out of control module box.
  33. Pull green cable with the contact spring (23) ahead, from the front passenger footwell into the control module box (arrow).

  34. Open connector 1 at traction system control module (N47). Insert contact spring of the green cable into contact 23.
  35. Close connector 1 and connect to control module.
  36. Run green cable from front passenger footwell in right cable duct to rear door.
  37. Strip insulation of green cable of auto pilot system wiring harness and green cable of traction system control module (N47) over about 15 mm.
  38. Solder together stripped green cables (c) with soldered joint (terminal block Z89).
  39. Close front right cable duct. Fit on right A pillar trim panel. Install knee pad below instrument panel on right and close control module box.

  40. All models 

  41. Run branch to parktronic system (PTS) warning display in rear dome lamp (A44/3) as illustrated and fix in place with felt (9) behind headliner.

  42. Run parktronic system wiring harness behind instrument panel (2) from connector (X35/27) in cable duct, starting from the left, and as illustrated in instrument panel to the installation points of the warning displays, and fix in place with cable strap and felt.
