Left and right turn signal indicator lamps (A1e1, A1e2)< f >

These are actuated differently depending on the function:

IMPORTANT While direction flashing is only possible when terminal 15 is ON, other types of flashing are possible with terminal 15 OFF. The audible turn signal indicator (A1h2) sounds in parallel with the flashing frequency.

High beam indicator lamp (A1e3)

This lamp is actuated by the light module (N7-1).

Fuel reserve indicator lamp (A1e4)

This indicator lamp comes on as soon as the reserve range is reached. It is actuated in close conjunction with the fuel level gauge (A1p2).

For more details, see "Displaying fuel level, function" document.

Low brake fluid level and parking brake indicator lamp (A1e7)

This lamp is actuated if the parking brake is not released while driving or the minimum brake fluid level is not reached.

The signal for actuating the lamp comes

Seat belt reminder lamp (A1e9)

This indicator lamp is not available for all national variants.

It comes on when the driver's seat belt buckle is not inserted when the engine is running. In addition a warning tone sounds on many national variants.

The signal for actuating the lamp comes directly from the seat belt buckle switch.

Airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15)

This lamp is actuated when there is a fault in the supplemental restraint system (SRS).

It is actuated directly by the SRS control module (N2/7).

For more details, see "SRS airbag indicator lamp..." document.

Preglow indicator lamp (A1e16)

This indicator lamp is only fitted to vehicles with diesel engines.

It comes on when terminal 15 is On, as long as the preglow time is in progress. The signal to actuate the lamp comes from the injection system control module (N3)  via the CAN/engine compartment.

In the event of a defect in the preglow indicator lamp (A1e16) a fault code is set in the instrument cluster (A1) and a corresponding message is sent to the injection system control module (N3) via the CAN/engine compartment. However, there is no fault message in the multifunction display (A1p13).

ABS MIL (A1e17)

This lamp is actuated when there is a fault in the ABS.

The signal to actuate the lamp comes from the < f >traction systems control module (N47)  via the CAN/engine compartment.

ASR MIL or ESP warning lamp (A1e22 or A1e41)

The vehicles are either equipped with ASR or ESP. The respective lamp is actuated as soon as the system intervenes in the driving situation.

The signal to actuate the lamp comes from the traction systems control module (N47)  via the CAN/engine compartment.

Engine diagnosis malfunction indicator lamp (A1e58) or "CHECK ENGINE" MIL (A1e26)

The vehicles are either equipped with the engine diagnosis malfunction indicator lamp (A1e58) or "CHECK ENGINE" MIL (A1e26) depending on the national variant.

The lamp is actuated when there is a fault in the injection system, ignition system or exhaust emission system.

The signal to actuate the lamp comes from the injection system control module (N3)  via the CAN/engine compartment.

IMPORTANT Apart from the actuations described above, all indicator and warning lamps are also actuated on the bulb test  with the exception of:

IMPORTANT In the case of some indicator and warning lamps (e.g. engine diagnosis malfunction indicator lamp (A1e58), a fault message appears in the multifunction display (A1p13) in parallel with the actuation. While most messages can be acknowledged, the indicator and warning lamps come on as long as there is a fault. Acknowledgment is not  possible.
