Self-Diagnostic System
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 29 other vehicles, including the 1999 Mercedes-Benz E430, 1999 Mercedes-Benz E320, 1999 Mercedes-Benz E300, 1999 Mercedes-Benz CLK430, and 1999 Mercedes-Benz CLK320. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Using Hand-Held Tester (HHT), retrieve and record Diagnostic Trouble Code(s) (DTC) from control module using manufacturer's instructions. See DTC IDENTIFICATION table. Perform appropriate test under SYSTEM TESTS . DTCs can only be erased using HHT. While performing DTC readout, it is possible that DTCs may appear that are not relevant to system being checked, meaning that all stored DTCs in that particular control module are being displayed.
