MODIFICATION NOTES

25.8.05 Waiting time changed from 5 to 10 minutes Step 10
  Charging
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin or eyes caused by hydraulic fluid spraying out under high pressure. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing hydraulic fluid. Depressurize the hydraulic system completely before starting any work on the system. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. AS00.00-Z-0013-01A
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

IMPORTANT Notes on active body control suspension   AH32.50-P-0001-01N
1 Fill the ABC system reservoir (2) with hydraulic fluid NOTESSPECIAL TOOL Funnel with filter (060) must not be used with other operating fluids. To help prevent contaminants from entering and damaging the ABC system, always store the SPECIAL TOOL funnel with filter (060) in a lockable cabinet.
IMPORTANT The vehicle must be ready to drive and standing horizontally on its wheels.

    FLUID SPECIFICATION *BF32.50-P-1001-01A
2 Insert dipstick (2a) all the way into the expansion reservoir (2), pull out again, read off fluid level and correct if necessary IMPORTANT Read off the fluid level on the dipstick on the side with the inscription "ENGINE OFF UNLADEN". The fluid level must be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks.
3 Start engine NOTES The fluid level in the expansion reservoir (2) must be observed throughout the entire filling process (2nd person required). Never allow the level of the fluid within the reservoir (2) to fall below the MIN graduation. The tandem pump (1) must NOT draw in any air, otherwise it can be damaged due to the lack of lubrication.
4 Press the vehicle level adjustment button repeatedly until both indicator lamps in the button go out IMPORTANT Vehicle level "Normal".
5 Insert dipstick (2a) all the way into the expansion reservoir (2), pull out again, read off fluid level and correct if necessary IMPORTANT Read off the fluid level on the dipstick on the side with the inscription "ENGINE ON UNLADEN". The fluid level must be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks.
  Bleeding
6.1 Pressurize the ABC system manually When replacing the tandem pump (1).
IMPORTANT The vehicle must be ready to drive and standing horizontally on its wheels.

7 Press the vehicle level adjustment button repeatedly until both indicator lamps in the button light up IMPORTANT Vehicle level "High".
8 Press the vehicle level adjustment button repeatedly until both indicator lamps in the button go out IMPORTANT Vehicle level "Normal".
IMPORTANT Steps 7 and 8 must be repeated 3 times.
IMPORTANT Following removal, installation or replacement of suspension struts or valve units, steps 7 and 8 should be repeated approx. 15 times.

9 Turn off engine
10 After leaving to settle for approx. 10 min, pull the dipstick (2a) out of the expansion reservoir (2) and wipe off with a lint free cloth IMPORTANT Always wait for 10 minutes because the hydraulic fluid only flows back into the expansion reservoir (2) slowly and otherwise the measured value will be distorted.
11 Insert dipstick (2a) all the way into the expansion reservoir (2), pull out again, read off fluid level and correct if necessary IMPORTANT Read off the fluid level on the dipstick on the side with the inscription "ENGINE OFF UNLADEN". The fluid level must be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks.
12 Start engine
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
13 Check ABC front axle valve unit (Y36/1) and ABC rear axle valve unit (Y36/2) for whistling/ hissing noises IMPORTANT In case of whistling/hissing noises in ABC front axle valve unit (Y36/1) or ABC rear axle valve unit (Y36/2):

Switch off the engine at once! Raise the vehicle with the lifting platform until the suspension struts are relieved of load. Carefully open bleed screws (56 and/or 57) until hydraulic fluid slowly emerges. Close bleed screws and repeat steps 1 to 12.
