Radius Rod: Removal

NOTE: Letters and numbers in parenthesis correspond to letters and numbers in illustrations.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels.
  2. Remove torsion bar (6). Linkage rods remain attached to the wheel carriers. See Fig 1. Also, see TORSION BAR .
  3. Remove underbody panel (131). Remove the four rear plastic nuts of paneling (131a) and press down paneling. Avoid bending side cover panels any more than absolutely necessary.
  4. NOTE: DO NOT disconnect fuel lines.
  5. Remove fuel filter (115) at bracket. Hold fuel filter to the side.
  6. Remove exhaust heat shield (105c).
  7. Remove retaining bolts from propeller shaft intermediate bearing (106a).
  8. Remove propeller shaft (106) from rear axle center assembly at the flange. The flexible coupling remains on the propeller shaft. Tie up propeller shaft as high as possible. If the propeller shaft cannot be removed from the propeller shaft flange release guide sleeves on flexible coupling.
  9. Support rear axle at rear axle center assembly to secure against falling.
  10. Remove the front and rear axle mount bolts (1c) on one side.
  11. Lower rear axle by pressing away from fuel tank using assembly lever. Drain rear axle until the fixing bolt of the tension arm can be tightened at the rear axle carrier.
  12. Remove bolts of tension arm (3) at wheel carrier and rear axle carrier.
