MODIFICATION NOTES

16.5.06 Disconnect, connect ground lead for battery, removed for model 203    
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units. Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100°C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply. AS91.00-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A

1 Fully extend steering wheel    
2 Activate Service mode in Tele-Aid emergency call system IMPORTANT Only on model 463.243/244/245/246/247/ 248/249/250/254/270/271/303/309/322/ 323/332/333/340/341 with code ET2 TeleAid car phone emergency call system AR82.95-P-0005-03GR

6 Lift driver airbag unit (1) from steering wheel    
7 Lift locks (7) SPECIAL TOOL Fig 5
8 Disconnect squib 2 electrical connector (3) and squib 1 electrical connector (4) SPECIAL TOOL Fig 5
9 Disconnect multifunction steering wheel electrical connectors (5, 6)    
10 Remove driver airbag unit (1) IMPORTANT Defective driver airbag units (1) must be made unusable in the proper manner and scrapped in an environmentally acceptable way. In all countries, the valid national and local statutory requirements must be observed.

11 Install in the reverse order    
12 Deactivate service mode in TELE AID emergency call system IMPORTANT Only on model 463.243/244/245/246/247/ 248/249/250/254/270/271/303/309/322/ 323/332/333/340/341 with code ET2 TeleAid car phone emergency call system AR82.95-P-0005-03GR

13 Read out fault memory and erase IMPORTANT STAR DIAGNOSIS: Stored faults which can result from cables being disconnected or from simulation during assembly or testing work have to be processed and erased in the fault memories after completing work.
