Removal & Installation

NOTE: Numbers and letters in parenthesis refer to letters and numbers in illustrations.
  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Fold up rear seat cushion and remove cover (1). See Figure .
  3. Loosen adjusting nut (89). See Fig 1 .
  4. Remove brake cable (85) at intermediate lever (91) and detach at intermediate lever housing using snap-release tool. See Fig 2 .
  5. Remove front floor covering to facilitate removal of parking brake cable. See Fig 3 .
  6. Remove cover below instrument panel. See COVER BELOW INSTRUMENT PANEL  .
  7. Remove cover (71a) of parking brake pedal (75).
  8. Remove brake cable (85) from parking brake pedal (75) using snap release tool.
  9. Remove heat shield of exhaust system.
  10. Unclip brake cable (85) and remove. Destroy clips that are difficult to move when removing cable.
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Replace destroyed clips. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Adjust parking brake. See PARKING BRAKE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
