REMOVINGINSTALLING Removing/installing     
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged leadacid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A

1 Disconnect battery ground cable NOTES Model 209: Do not connect quiescent current retention unit, otherwise damage could occur in the control unit.

2 Detach cover via battery positive terminal (1) at battery.    
3 Disconnect battery positive terminal (1) at the battery    
4 Open cover on cable connector (2)    
5 Disconnect positive cable (3) at cable connector (2)    
6 Detach top rubber seal (4) from right splash wall    
7 Release top left and right plastic guide (5) and pull out with positive lead (3) IMPORTANT Put plastic guide (5) and positive lead (3) to the side.  
8 Remove cover via cover of fuse, relay box (6)    
9 Remove cover of fuse and relay box (6). IMPORTANTInstallation:  Check rubber seal in cover (4) and replace if necessary. The fuse, relay box (6) must sit at the rear in groove.  
10 Disconnect connectors of the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) in the fuse and relay box    
11 Disconnect connectors on the driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) in the fuse and relay box    
12 Separate connector of separation point module housing/engine (6a) in fuse and relay box.    
13 Detach top rubber seal (7) from left splash wall    
14 Pull wiring loom (9) out of fuse and relay box IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure that the rubber seal (10) is seated correctly.  
15 Pull out plastic guide (8) with wire harness (9)    
16 Remove engine compartment paneling   AR61.20-P-1105P
17 Detach ground line at power steering pump    
18 O2 Disconnect left 02 sensor connector, upstream of TWC (G3/3x1) O2a and right 02 sensor connector, upstream of TWC (G3/4x1). IMPORTANT Press the plug connectors out of the brackets.  
19 Separate the left O2 sensor connector downstream of TWC (G3/5x1) O2 and the right sensor connector downstream of TWC (G3/6x1). IMPORTANT Press the plug connectors out of the brackets.  
20.1 Take off shield (11) for connector on automated manual transmission, 18-pin (X22/17). IMPORTANT On vehicles with Transmission 722.6.  
21.1 Take off connector of automated manual transmission, 18-pin (X22/17). IMPORTANT On vehicles with Transmission 722.6.  
    IMPORTANTinstallation:  Check O-ring for connector of automated manual transmission, 18-pin (X22/17), replace if necessary.  
22 Remove ground transmission (W49) Engine 113.988 in models 203.076 /276, Engines 112.955, 113.968 /987 in model 209: ↓  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt or nut for rear engine mount on transmission *BA22.10-P-1006-01L   
    Engines 112.912 /916 /946/953/961 in model 203: ↓  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt or nut for rear engine mount on transmission *BA22.10-P-1006-01R 
23.1 Separate connector of automated manual transmission, 2-pin (X22/18). IMPORTANT On vehicles with Transmission 716.6.  
24 Install in reverse order    
25 Perform basic programming Model 203 AR00.19-P-0200P
    Model 209 AR00.19-P-0200Q
26 Read out fault memory and erase IMPORTANT When the work is complete stored faults must be worked on in the diagnostic trouble code memories and erased.
The stored faults can be caused by removed cables, assembly operations, test operations as well as by a simulation.
 
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect up STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
    Diagnosis system STAR DIAGNOSIS, Compact Passenger Car *WH58.30-Z-1048-13A 
27 Carry out function check
