REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/Install     
DANGER Risk of explosion  from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury  through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking. Wear protective gloves, acid-resistant clothing and safety glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
1 Disconnect ground cable of battery NOTES Do not connect a quiescent current retention unit! AR54.10-P-0003P

2 Remove cover (1) of fuse and relay box NOTESInstallation:  Check rubber seal in the cover, replace if necessary.
Cover must be located in the groove at the rear.
 
3 Pull wiring loom (2) out of the fuse and relay box NOTESInstallation:  Ensure proper seating of rubber seal (3).  
4 Disconnect connectors (7, N3/10) in the fuse and relay box    
5 Take off rubber seal (4)    
6 Pull out plastic cover (5) together with wiring loom (2) and place to the side    
7 Open cover (6) of front prefuse box (F32)    
8 Remove positive lead (8) at front prefuse box (F32)    
9 Disconnect positive cable (8) at battery    
10 Detach rubber seal (9)    
11 Pull out plastic cover (10) together with positive cable (8) and place to the side    
12 Remove engine compartment paneling   AR61.20-P-1105P
13 Disconnect connector of O2 sensor upstream of TWC (G3/2x1) IMPORTANT At the same time press connector of O2 sensor upstream of TWC (G3/2x1) out of bracket (11).  
14 Dismount ground transmission (W49) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA22.10-P-1006-01A 
15.1 Separate plug connection of reversing light switch (X49/1) On vehicles with transmission 716.6  
16.1 Dismount shield (12) On vehicles with transmission 722.6  
17.1 Disconnect AMT connector, 18-pin (X22/17) On vehicles with transmission 722.6  
    NOTESInstallation:  Check O-ring for connector of automated manual transmission, 18-pin (X22/17), replace if necessary.  
18 Install in the reverse order    
19 Read fault memory and erase, if necessary Diagnosis system STAR DIAGNOSIS *WH58.30-Z-1048-13A
