Instrument cluster (IC), function - GF54.30-P-0002PM
MODEL 203.0 /2 /7 as of 24.4.04
Shown with engine 612, 646 and transmission 722.6
The instrument cluster (A1) discharges the following functions:
- For information on vital vehicle operating conditions
- Warn the driver about critical operating conditions
- As display unit for various systems
- As a computer and display for the Active Service System (ASSYST)
- As a trip computer (RRE) for the driver
The instrument cluster (A1) is equipped with the multifunction display (A1p13), various display instruments, warning and indicator lamps as well as an acoustic sensor.
In addition various signals are processed in the instrument cluster (A1) and passed on to the Controller Area Network bus class C (engine compartment) (CAN-C) and/or to the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B).
All the necessary information from various control units reaches the instrument cluster (A1) via CAN-C or CAN-B.
For this reason only a few lines are required to connect with the remaining vehicle components. The instrument cluster (A1) only has one connector.
The instrument cluster (A1) has a microprocessor to process the incoming data. The program and necessary data are stored in an electronic memory chip.
Operation takes place via the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111), left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and via the trip odometer reset button (A1s3) on the instrument cluster (A1).
Following replacement of the instrument cluster (A1) it will be necessary to enter the ID code using STAR DIAGNOSIS. The codings and kilometer reading are then transmitted automatically from a vehicle control unit to the new instrument cluster (A1) via the Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN).
