Removal & Installation

  1. Fold up rear seat cushion exposing cover (1) and remove cover. See Figure .
  2. Loosen adjustable slack adjuster nut (89). See Figure .
  3. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels. Remove rear brake discs. See BRAKE DISC (FRONT & REAR)  .
  4. Unhook retracting spring (111) using extraction and insertion tool (041). See Fig 1 and Fig 2 .
  5. Unhook retaining springs (107) using installation tool (040). See Fig 3 .
  6. Remove brake shoes (103) over axle shaft flange (68).
  7. Remove return spring (112) and expanding lock (109).
  8. NOTE: Ensure correct seating of return spring (112).
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Coat all bearing and slide surfaces on expanding lock, threads on thrust piece (104) and cylindrical part of adjuster wheel with MB long term grease. Torque nuts and bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Check parking brake travel and adjust if necessary. See PARKING BRAKE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
