Removal & Installation

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels.
  2. Check brake pad lining thickness. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS  . If brake pad inning thickness is under minimum specification, continue with procedure.
  3. Disconnect brake pad wear sensor electrical connectors.
  4. Using a punch, drive out retaining pins (41) from brake pads (43).
  5. Remove brake pads using lever (034). See Fig 1 .
  6. Remove brake pad wear sensors from brake pads.
  7. NOTE: Push back one caliper piston at a time. Hold caliper piston not being pressed back with another resetting device. If caliper piston is difficult to move, replace or overhaul brake caliper. See BRAKE CALIPER (REAR)  under OVERHAUL.
  8. Press caliper pistons into brake caliper using resetting device.
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Clean brake pad guides with brake caliper brush (030). Brake pads with anti-squeek shims (a and c) should be installed dry. Brake pads without anti-squeek shims, smear side surfaces (arrows) of brake pads lightly with brake pad paste. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Before driving, pump brake pedal several times until brake pads contact brake discs. Check brake fluid reservoir and correct fluid level as necessary.
