Remove Main Shaft And Countershaft With Shift Unit

Remove central shift shaft (1).NOTE: Only on Transporter with transmission 716.643 and on passenger cars with transmission 716.6 with Sequentronic automated manual transmission (ASG) code 424.
- 2 - Unscrew four bolts (2) for attaching the shift unit (3).
- 3 - Mount drive shaft (4) on main shaft (6).

Mount assembly plate (01) on drive shaft (4) and countershaft (5).NOTE: With 25 mm diameter countershaft (5): Use assembly plate (210 589 01 31 00). See Figure.
With 32 mm diameter countershaft (5): Use assembly plate (716 589 00 31 00). See Figure.
- 5 - Clamp transmission on assembly plate (01) in a vise.

Mount brackets (02, 03) on rear part of transmission housing.NOTE: A: Transmission 716.6 with Sequentronic automated manual transmission (ASG) code 424.NOTE: B: Transmission 716.6 without Sequentronic automated manual transmission (ASG) code 424.

Detach rear part of transmission housing from output shaft (7) with puller (04) and grippers (05):
- 01 Assembly plate (716 589 00 31 00) or (210 589 01 31 00). See Figure and Figure .
- 02, 03 Set of brackets (716 589 00 40 00). See Fig 4.
- 04 Puller (000 589 65 33 00). See Figure.
- 05 Claw (000 589 87 33 00). See Figure.

- 9 - Remove output shaft (7), countershaft (5) and mainshaft (6).
