Notes on installing a trailer coupling - AH31.10-P-1000-02M
Model 220
It must be pointed out to the customer that fuse 55 in the rear passenger compartment fuse and relay box (F4) should only be fitted when driving with a trailer - when at a standstill an external consumer could cause the vehicle's battery to discharge.
In vehicles equipped with engine 613.960 stipulations require the installation of an additional water cooler (10) in the right hand wheel house.
In the event that the above-mentioned components are not retrofitted this will render the warranty/goodwill null and void.
The transport paneling between the crossrail and swivel-mounted ball neck should only be removed after installation of the trailer coupling release.
The ball neck engages into the two end positions and can then only be disengaged by means of the control cable on the release lever.
The following applies to the Federal Republic of Germany: The installed trailer coupling must be submitted to an officially-appointed expert for the purpose of inspection and approval. Export countries must adhere to their respective registration regulations or statutory requirements regarding the installation of a trailer coupling.
On all areas in which the trailer coupling comes into contact with the body, the body sealing compound and the underbody coating are to be removed. The body areas should then be cleaned with a commercial cleaning agent. Bright body areas should be coated with anti-corrosion paint.
Trailer couplings are homologated safety-related parts. They are to be mounted to the vehicle by skilled personnel. Trailer couplings, which are damaged because of an accident, bottoming or being run into from behind, must be replaced; subsequent alterations such as bending, mechanically processing, welding etc. are not permitted.
The coupling ball must have a ball diameter of at least 49 mm all round, as measured by a sliding caliper. In order to keep the ball wear as low as possible the ball should be greased before being used. This should also be pointed out to the customer.
On trailers with an anti-swerve device
it is not necessary to grease the ball (refer to trailer instructions). This should also be pointed out to the customer.
The customer should be asked to read the chapters entitled "Trailer coupling" and "Trailer operation" in the vehicle's operating instructions.
