Check condition of battery - AR54.10-P-1129I: Notes

MODIFICATION NOTES

25.4.07 Check fluid level with service fill level indicator added Step 5.2  
REMOVING Removing     
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.
Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

1 Unhook trunk retractable partition Model 230 to test on-board electrical system battery.  
2 Remove spare tire cover For checking the on-board electrical system battery.  
3 Open engine hood and move to vertical position Model 230 to test starter battery. AR88.40-P-1000R
  Check     
4 Visually inspect battery for external leaks IMPORTANT If leaks are found, replace battery, see: ↓
Remove/install battery
 
    Model 215, 220 AR54.10-P-0005I 
    Model 230 on-board electrical system battery AR54.10-P-0005RA
    Model 230 starter battery AR54.10-P-0005RB
REFER TO FORMS Dispose of battery   OS54.10-P-0001-01Z
5.1 Check fluid level in battery, replenish with distilled water if necessary Without  service fill level indicator, not on absorbent glass mat battery.  
5.2 Check fluid level of battery With  service fill level indicator, not on absorbent glass mat battery.
IMPORTANT Fluid check via service fill level indicator, acid level is too low if colored white: Replace battery, see: ↓
Remove/install battery
 
    Model 215, 220 AR54.10-P-0005I 
    Model 230 on-board electrical system battery AR54.10-P-0005RA
REFER TO FORMS Dispose of battery   OS54.10-P-0001-01Z
6 Check battery   AR54.10-P-1129-01A 
    Cold cranking amps as per EN
Midtronics battery tester with test clamps

7 Reduce increased voltage after charging process On a battery that is disconnected from the onboard electrical system and with the message "Surface voltage" in the display of the Midtronics battery tester.
Midtronics battery tester Volt/amp tester

IMPORTANT After reducing increased voltage, test battery again.

8 Charge battery With the test code "Charge and check" on the Midtronics battery tester.
IMPORTANT After charging, test battery again.

INSTALLING Install     
9 Close engine hood Model 230 after test of starter battery. AR88.40-P-1000R
10 Install spare tire cover After checking the on-board electrical system battery.  
11 Install trunk retractable partition Model 230 after test of on-board electrical system battery.
