Fuel pump wiring harness conversion

REMOVING Removal     
1.1 Remove rear seat backrest Model 220.0/1 without code (223) electrically adjustable rear bench seat or without code (224) electrically adjustable individual rear seats, with seat ventilation, seat heater and memory package AR91.12-P-1620MA
    Model 220.878 with Vis-a-vis seats

2.1 Remove seat adjustment mechanism of left and right rear seat cushion Model 220.0/1 with code (223) Electrically adjustable rear bench seat or with code (224) Electrically adjustable individual rear seats, with seat ventilation, seat heater and memory package, or model 220.878 with Vis-a-vis seats AR91.12-P-1520M
3.1 Remove armrest from rear-seat backrest. Model 220.0/1 with code (223) Electrically adjustable rear bench seat or with code (224) Electrically adjustable individual rear seats, with seat ventilation, seat heater and memory package AR91.12-P-1745MB
    Model 220.878 with Vis-a-vis seats AR91.12-P-1745MP
4.1 Remove stowage box between rear seats Model 220.0/1 with code (224) Electrically adjustable individual rear seats, with seat ventilation, seat heater and memory package AR91.12-P-1760M

5.1 Unscrew bolts (2) and pull housing (3) forwards. With vehicles with code (282) ski bag (through-loading feature) or with code (308) cooling compartment in center rear backrest  
6 Loosen damping material (4) from partition wall, fold and place at top behind head restraints in rear.    
7 Remove expansion clips (5) and take damping material (6) out of vehicle.    
8 Connect no load current retention unit   AR54.10-P-1030-07I 
9 Disconnect battery ground cable   AR54.10-P-0003I 
10 Remove right side cover in the trunk Model 215.3, 220.0/1 AR68.30-P-4600M

INSTALLING Install     
11 Connect fuse holder (7) to relay holder (8), position on the partition wall (9) above the tank filler pipe (14) and mark the position of the bore hole (arrow A) for the relay holder (8)    
12.1 Unscrew nut (10), remove right (A2/35a2) antenna element and place to one side. On vehicles with code (889) Keyless go.  
13 Drill hole (arrow A) for relay holder (8). IMPORTANT Use 4mm dia. drill bit and afterwards remove drill shavings.

14 Secure relay holder (8) to partition wall (9) using bolt (11).    
15 Fit new fuel pump relay in socket base of relay holder (8). IMPORTANT The new fuel pump relay is included in the parts kit for the fuel pump wiring harness (1).  
16 Unscrew nut (12) from circuit 30Z terminal block and fuse box (X4/22).    
17 Fit connection eyelet at fuel pump wiring harness (1) on circuit 30Z terminal block and fuse box (X4/22) and secure tightly using nut (12). TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA54.10-P-1016-01C 
18 Route ground connection of fuel pump wiring harness (1) along existing wiring harness to ground (right taillamp in luggage compartment) (W7/1). IMPORTANT Route ground connection of fuel pump wiring harness (1) free of tension and fix in place using cable ties.  
19 Unscrew nut (13) from ground (right taillamp in luggage compartment) (W7/1).    
20 Fit ground connection of fuel pump wiring harness (1) on ground (right taillamp in luggage compartment) (W7/1) and secure using nut (13). TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA54.10-P-1015-01C 
21 Route the wiring harness for fuel pump (1) out of the luggage compartment, below the tank filler pipe (14) along the existing wiring harness into the vehicle interior IMPORTANT Route fuel pump wiring harness (1) free of tension and fix in place using cable ties.  
22 In vehicle interior, remove nut (16) and bolt (15) at control unit holder (17).    
23 Remove control unit holder (17) and place in rear footwell.    
24 Disconnect connector (18) from rear SAM control unit (N10/8). IMPORTANT The rear SAM control unit (N10/8) is located below the control unit holder (17).  
25 Unpin pin 13 (arrow B) and pin 14 (arrow C) at connector (18). IMPORTANT Color of the line to the pin 13 (arrow B), red/blue.
Color of the line to pin 14 (arrow C), green/black.

27 Plug pin 13 (arrow B) into position 2 of connector (19). IMPORTANT The relevant position number can be seen on the outside of the connector (19).
The plug (19) is included in the parts kit of the wiring harness for the fuel pump (1).
 
28 Plug pin 14 (arrow C) into position 1 of the connector (19). IMPORTANT The relevant position number can be seen on the outside of the connector (19).  
29.1 Pin the pin 11 into the slot 3 of plug (19) In models 215.374, 220.074/174
IMPORTANT The relevant position number can be seen on the outside of the connector (19).
 
30 Connect the connector (18) to rear SAM control unit (N10/8).    
31 Connect the connector (19) to fuel pump wiring harness (1).    
32 Route the wiring harness for the fuel pump (1) unstressed, along the existing wiring harness to the left side of the vehicle and fix in position with cable ties IMPORTANT Route fuel pump wiring harness (1) in a straight line near center tunnel and fix in place using suitable, self-adhesive felt strips.  
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
33 Raise vehicle with lifting platform IMPORTANT Only lift so far that the interior, right-hand side of vehicle, is still accessible from outside.  
34 Only loosen the cover (20) of the fuel pump (M3) until the plug (21) on the fuel pump (M3) is accessible IMPORTANT The cover (20) is fastened with three nuts.  
35 Disconnect connector (21) and pull wiring harness (22) with grommet (23) into vehicle interior.    
36 Guide fuel pump wiring harness (1) outwards through body floor. IMPORTANT Moisten the grommet (23) on the wiring harness for the fuel pump (1) with antifriction agent and position correctly.

37 Connect the connector at fuel pump wiring harness (1) to fuel pump (M3) and install cover (20). IMPORTANT The cover (20) of the fuel pump (M3) is secured by three nuts.  
38 Lower vehicle with lifting platform    
39 Strap down connector (21) at wiring harness (22) using suitable insulation tape.    
40 Route fuel pump wiring harness (1) in vehicle interior along existing wiring harness and fix in place using cable ties. IMPORTANT Right side of vehicle
Route fuel pump wiring harness (1) free of tension.
 
41.1 Position right antenna element (A2/35a2) and secure in place using nut (10). On vehicles with code (889) Keyless go  
42 Install right side paneling in luggage compartment Model 215.3, 220.0/1 AR68.30-P-4600M

43 Position damping material (6) in vehicle and install expansion clips (5). IMPORTANT Replace damaged expansion clips (5)  
44 Secure damping material (4) to partition wall.    
45 Connect ground cable to battery   AR54.10-P-0003I 
46 Disconnect quiescent current retention device   AR54.10-P-1030-07I 
47.1 Position the housing (3) and tighten with bolts (2) With vehicles with code (282) ski bag (through-loading feature) or with code (308) cooling compartment in center rear backrest  
48.1 Install stowage box between rear seats Model 220.0/1 with code (224) Electrically adjustable individual rear seats, with seat ventilation, seat heater and memory package AR91.12-P-1760M

52 Remove fuse 52 originally installed for fuel pump relay from previous installation location    
REFER TO BASIC KNOWLEDGE Fuse assignment of rear fuse and relay box

53 Remove originally installed fuel pump relay from previous installation    
REFER TO BASIC KNOWLEDGE Relay assignment of rear fuse and relay box   GF54.15-P-1257-01IH
54 Document new installation location of relay holder (8) for fuel pump relay and fuse holder (7) in vehicle documentation. IMPORTANT Cut out the view in the document and enclose the folding sheet of the fuse and relay assignment of the fuse and relay box in the rear.
