REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/Install     
DANGER Risk of death  cased by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
NOTES Notes on repairs to brake system All models AH42.00-P-0003-01A
1 Lift vehicle with lifting platform until the wheels are clear    
2 Remove rear wheels.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary   AP40.10-P-4050Z
3 Relieve load on cable slack adjuster   AR42.20-P-0520-03IM 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking bolt, brake cable to rear wheel carrier *BA42.20-P-1002-01A 
    SPECIAL TOOL Snap-release tool *129589116300
4 Remove brake disks on rear axle   AR42.10-P-0220I 
5 Detach lower retracting spring (111) using removal and installation tool (040) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure that lower retracting spring (111) is seated correctly.

6 Remove retaining spring (107) using installation tool (041) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure that retaining springs (107) are seated correctly.

7 Remove brake shoes (103) over rear axle shaft flange (68) IMPORTANT If the brake shoes (103) are scorched or the faces of the brake disks are damaged, the brake shoes (103), retracting springs, retaining springs (107) and brake disks must be replaced.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Turn back adjusting mechanism (105) and insert into both brake shoes (103) such that the adjusting wheel (c) points in the direction of travel.
 
8 Detach upper retracting spring (112) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure that upper retracting spring (112) is seated correctly. Coat thread of thrust piece (104) and cylindrical part of adjusting wheel (c) with MB long-life grease.  
    Long-life grease *BR00.45-Z-1001-06A 
9 Remove expanding lock (109) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Coat all bearing and sliding surfaces on the expanding lock (109) with MB long-life grease.  
    Long-life grease *BR00.45-Z-1001-06A 
10 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Check     
11 Check version of pedal assembly    
12 Adjusting parking brake   AR42.20-P-0540IM
