Troubleshooting
Complaint  Possible cause  Notes  Remedy/Test step
Trip computer control module (N41) completely inoperative Voltage supply, trip computer control module (N41)   AD54.50-P-6000-01GH
Only  date function faulty If clock in instrument cluster is also faulty:
Instrument cluster (A1) otherwise: N41
Synchronization signal for advancing the date comes from the instrument cluster (A1) via CAN data bus. AD54.30-P-1000GHZ
A1
N41
Only  journey time function faulty N41 This function is performed completely within the trip computer control module (N41). N41
Following functions faulty:
  • Instantaneous fuel consumption,
  • average fuel consumption and
  • range function
If vehicle speed display in instrument cluster (A1) is also faulty:
Traction system control module (N47) otherwise:
Injection system control module (N3) CAN data buses
The signals required come from the traction system control module (N47) and from the injection system control module (N3) via CAN data bus. AD42.35-P-1001BZ Read out wheel speed signals (actual values) at A1 or N47 with HHT.
AD07.61-P-1000AZ Read out fuel consumption signal (actual value) at N3 with HHT.
AD54.50-P-6000-02GH
Only  function
  • Instantaneous fuel consumption or
  • average fuel consumption or
  • both functions faulty
N41   N41
Only  range function faulty If fuel display in instrument cluster (A1) is also faulty:
Fuel gauge sensor (M3/3b1),
A1 otherwise: N41
The signals required come from the instrument cluster (A1), from the traction system control module (N47) and from the injection system control module (N3) via CAN data bus. AD54.30-P-1000GHZ  Read out actual value of fuel gauge sensor at A1 with HHT. N41
Display of range (Engl. FUEL) flashes  , although the fuel tank (due to refuelling) is filled significantly above reserve. If fuel display in the instrument cluster (A1) is also faulty:
Fuel gauge sensor (M3/3b1), A1 otherwise: N41
Read out actual value of fuel gauge sensor at A1 with HHT. N41
Display of range (Engl. FUEL) does not  flash, although the fuel tank level is clearly in the reserve range. If fuel display in the instrument cluster (A1) is also faulty:
Fuel gauge sensor (M3/3b1), A1 otherwise: N41
AD54.30-P-1000GHZ  Read out actual value of fuel gauge sensor at A1 with HHT. N41
