Switching on the ignition and starting the engine
When the ignition is switched on (ignition/starter switch position "2"), the warning and malfunction indicator lamps in the instrument cluster come on (exterior lamp failure indicator lamp) and go out when the engine is running.
Driving mode
In driving mode the ETS warning lamp flashes when a wheel speed does not correspond to the vehicle speed. The driving style can therefore be better adapted to the road conditions.
The ETS warning lamp continues flashing for approx. 1 second once vehicle stability is restored.
Indicator lamp evaluation
If the ETS indicator comes on when the engine is running, there is a fault in the ETS. ETS is inoperative, the ABS function is retained. If the ABS and ETS MIL come on when the engine is running, there is a fault in both control circuits and both systems are switched off. If the ETS MIL and the brake fluid/parking brake indicator lamp come on when the engine is running, there is a fault in the electronic brake booster pressure. A warning sound is also activated for 5 seconds when braking above 40 km/h. The warning sound is also activated when the fault occurs for the first time or when there is a fault in the electronic brake booster pressure after the ignition is switched on.
If the ETS MIL comes on in ETS control mode and goes out again after a short time, a calculated temperature value of the brake linings concerned has been exceeded. Consequently there is no ETS control at the appropriate wheel (wheels) until the temperature has again dropped to a set value.
This switching off due to temperature is stored in the ETS control module.
