Connection schematic for wiring harness
Routing diagram for wiring harness
On vehicles with Parktronic system (PTS ) code 220 the following steps must be carried out on the trailer hitch wiring harness before routing the trailer hitch wiring harness outside the vehicle:
-
- ORIS wiring harness: 1.5 meters (0.75 mm2
) Adapt the brown/white line (9) to the looped brown/white cable branch- off line using a voltage distributor (br/ws).
On vehicles without Parktronic system the looped brown/white cable branch-off line (br/ws) is tie back at the battery and fixed in position on the vehicle's own wiring harness.
- Westfalia wiring harness:
- Expose the brown/white line (br/ws) from the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) (see Figure below).
- meters (0.75 mm2 ) Adapt brown/white line (9) to the exposed brown/white cable branch- off line (br/ws) using a voltage distributor.
- ORIS wiring harness: 1.5 meters (0.75 mm2
) Adapt the brown/white line (9) to the looped brown/white cable branch- off line using a voltage distributor (br/ws).
-
-
- Slit the existing grommet (23) and insert trailer hitch wiring harness (1) into the grommet.
- Insert grommet in the hole (24) and seal.
- Remove the grommet of the trailer coupling wiring harness (1) which is no longer required.
-
- Remove blind plug (23) from the hole (24).

Vehicles without Parktronic system (code 220)
-
- Plug 3-pin coupling and 13-pin coupling from trailer hitch wiring harness (1) into socket housing (10) and seal with grommet (17).
It should be ensured that the sealing lip of the grommet (17) abuts the socket housing (10) without any creases.
- Fasten socket housing (10) to the bracket (19) of the trailer hitch with three 4.8x32 sheet metal screws.
- Fasten the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) to the eyelets of the crossmember (20) using tie straps (see arrows).
- Guide trailer coupling wiring harness (1) through the hole on the underfloor (see detail) and place into storage area recess.
Shown on model 203
- Route trailer coupling wiring harness (1) along the longitudinal member through opening (see arrow) and onto the wheelhouse and fix in place with felt strips.
- To extend the ground branch off line on the trailer hitch wiring harness (1), prepare an 800 mm long line with 2.5 mm2 with a 6 mm dia round cable lug in each case.
- Connect the extended ground line (21) to the ground cable branch-off line from the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) with a soldered connector (see magnified section).
Cut the round cable lug off the ground branch-off line on the trailer hitch wiring harness (1).
- Route the extended ground line (21) from the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) along the vehicle's own wiring harness to the left taillamp (W6/1) and fix in position.
- Fasten cable lug to ground (left taillamp in luggage compartment) (W6/1).
- Route the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) along the vehicle"s own wiring harnesses over the left wheelhouse (Figure on left) to the left cable duct and fix in position up to the branch-off line (see arrow in Figure on right).
- Route cable branch-off lines, red/blue (rt/ bl) and brown/white (br/ws), to rear fuse box (F4).
- Fasten lines with adhesive pads and tie straps supplied (Figure on left).
-
-
- Insert the fuse block (B) supplied.
- Insert plug of the red auxiliary line (rt) in the free chamber E of the plug position 12 in the fuse block B (see magnified section on right).
- Route red line (rt) along the vehicle's own wiring harness to the positive battery terminal and fix in position.
- Fasten the cable lug of the red line (rt) to the positive battery terminal (see magnified section).
-
- Insert red/blue (rt/bl) in the free chamber (D) of the plug position 12 in the fuse block (B).
- Assign fuse position 12 with a 25A fuse (arrow).
It should be pointed out to the customer that fuse 12 must only be fitted when towing a trailer as otherwise a remote consumer could discharge the battery.
- Route the brown/white line (br/ws) with plug-in sleeve behind the rear fuse box (F4) to the pneumatic control unit with combined functionsA37).
- Detach and open white coupling from pneumatic control unit with (A37) combined functions (see magnified section).
- Insert brown/white cable (br/ws) into free chamber 15 in white coupling (see arrow).
If chamber 15 is assigned, adapter brown/white line (br/ws) to the line from chamber 15 with voltage distributor (Remove plug-in sleeve ).
- Expose black/green line (sw/gn) and black/white line (sw/ws) from the cable duct and check with multimeter signal.
Left rear turn signal lamp has cable color black/green (sw/gn), Right rear turn signal lamp has cable color black/white (sw/ws).
- Connect the black/green line (sw/gn) from the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) to the black/ green line (right rear turn signal lamp) by means of a voltage distributor (see magnified section).
- Connect black/white line (sw/ws) from the trailer coupling wiring harness (1) to the black/white line (left rear turn signal lamp) by means of a voltage distributor (see magnified section).
-
-
- Expose gray/green line (gr/gn) for rear fog lamp from the cable duct and cut through.
- Connect green/white line end (gn/ws) from the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) with a voltage distributor to the gray/green line end (gr/gn) which comes from the light module (N7-1)
- Connect gray/green line end (gr/gn) from the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) with a voltage distributor to the gray/green line end (gr/gn) which goes to the left taillamp (E3) using a voltage distributor.
-
- Expose and cut through gray/green line (gr/gn) for rear fog lamp from the cable duct.
- Detach the gray/green (gr/gn) line attached to the wiring harness with flat plug bushings attached on both sides from the wiring harness and cut through in the center.
- In each case connect a gray/green line for the vehicle's own wiring harness by means of a voltage distributor to the line ends of the flat plug bushings.
- Connect the relay enclosed as follows:
- a Adapt the gray/green line from the vehicle's own wiring harness, coming from the light module, to circuit 86.
- a Adapt the gray/green line from the vehicle's own wiring harness, going to the left taillamp, to circuit 87a.
- a Adapt the gray/green line of the trailer hitch wiring harness to circuit 85.
- Clip the relay into the right rear cable duct.
Vehicles with ORIS wiring harness
-
- Route the trailer hitch wiring harness (1) along the cable duct to the left A-pillar.
- Route the black 10-pin coupling to the light module (N7-1) behind the exterior lamp switch (26) and fit into a free chamber.
Coupling is coded.
-
- Route the brown/white extended line (br/ws) in the cable duct from the battery to the right footrest.
- Expose the brown/white line (br/ws) from the Parktronic system from the wiring harness as per the Figure.
- Connect brown/white line (br/ws) from the trailer hitch wiring harness and brown/white line (br/ ws) from the Parktronic system wiring harness to a voltage distributor.
- Fix lines in position on the vehicle's own wiring harness.
- Place bracket (10) into spare wheel and attach with threaded connection (14).
- Place ball head (12) into bracket (10) and attach with retaining strap (16).
- Glue on operating instructions plate (13) to paneling of rear end door.
