Removal & Installation

  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove rear cross strut at frame floor.
  3. Lower rear exhaust system.
  4. Remove heat shield below drive shaft.
  5. Pretension automatic brake cable slack adjuster by turning detent eccentric bolt to the left using an Allen wrench (approximately half a turn) and simultaneously push backwards in slot until spring-loaded detent eccentric (b) engages with raised section (h) in hold down clip (d). See Figure .
  6. Unhook retracting spring (94). See Fig 1 .
  7. Remove brake cable (85) at intermediate lever (91) by unscrewing bolt (93). Bolt brake cable to cable slack adjuster.
  8. Remove instrument panel lower cover. See COVER BELOW INSTRUMENT PANEL  .
  9. Remove accelerator pedal. See ACCELERATOR PEDAL  .
  10. Remove floor covering in driver footwell. See Fig 2 .
  11. Remove brake cable from parking brake pedal (75) using snap-release tool (043). See Fig 3 .
  12. Remove lower engine compartment paneling.
  13. Unclip brake cable from retaining clips (85a) in driver footwell, unclip on outside of frame floor and pull out through grommet (85b) at transmission tunnel.
  14. Remove brake cable from frame floor using snap release tool.
  15. Installation is the reverse of removal. Install new retaining clips. Slacken automatic cable slack adjuster (92) by lifting center hold-down clip (arrow) using a screwdriver so that the cable slack adjuster sets itself automatically. See Figure . Torque nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Adjust parking brake. See PARKING BRAKE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
