	Before starting work the area surrounding the oil cooling lines in the vicinity of the separation points on the transmission must be thoroughly cleaned. Even the smallest dirt particles, introduced into the hydraulic components, can lead to malfunctions and a total failure of the transmission
	Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries	No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers.	AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
1	Disconnect ground cable of battery	Insulate ground line as a protection against unintentional contact of detached ground line with ground point of battery.	AR54.10-P-0003I

3	Raise vehicle with lifting platform
4	Remove lower engine compartment paneling		AR61.20-P-1105M
5	Drain transmission oil at the transmission oil pan and at the torque converter	If the transmission oil is burnt or interspersed with abrasion, the oil cooler lines and oil cooler must be flushed out: ↓
		Flush oil cooler lines and oil cooler.	AR27.55-P-0001A
		Installation:  Replace sealing ring.

6	Remove right O2 sensor downstream of CAT (G3/6)		AR14.00-P-5303AA
7	Disconnect connector O2 left probe upstream of catalytic converter		AR14.00-P-5303AA
8	Disconnect plug on electrohydraulic controller unit	To do this, detach shield (10) over plug and unclip line.	AR27.10-P-0500-01A

9	Detach bracket (11) of connectors O2-oxygen sensor at bottom of transmission (5)
10	Remove exhaust bracket (6)	Installation:  Check tapping plates (4) and replace if necessary.
11	Mark front axle gear propeller shaft (3) in relation to transfer case flange
12	Detach front axle gear propeller shaft (3) from transfer case flange	Installation:  Observe marking.

13	Remove shift rod (14) from transmission (5)	To unhook, press the locking device (14a) upwards until the bolts of the shift rod (14) can be moved out
14	Remove bolts (13); to do this, turn the torque converter into the appropriate position		*BA27.20-P-1002-01C
15	Detach exhaust shielding plate (1) for front propeller shaft behind transfer case (16)
16	Detach front propeller shaft from transfer case (16)	Flexible disk remains on propeller shaft.
		Installation:  Attach front propeller shaft to transfer case (16).	AR41.10-P-0050-07I

17	Loosen fitted sleeves on flexible coupling.	If the fitted sleeves are jammed: ↓	AR41.10-P-0050-09I

18	Detach ground line from transfer case (16)
19	Dismount reinforcement bridge (8)		*BA61.10-P-1002-01D
20	Unhook rear exhaust system (7) from the rubber mounts, lower slightly and secure to prevent it from falling down
21	Support transmission (5) with assembly lift and transmission platform	Transmission platform, see GOTIS http://gotis.aftersales.daimlerchrysler.com
22	Remove rear engine cross member (2)	Rear engine mount remains installed.	AR22.10-P-1160IW
23	Undo banjo bolt (12) on left oil cooling line from transmission (5)	Seal off line connections using plugs.
		Installation:  Replace sealing rings.

27	Detach and remove oil filler pipe (15) on the right of the transmission (5) and on the cylinder head	Installation:  Replace oil filler pipe O-ring (15).
28	Remove automatic transmission (5) diagonally downwards using assembly lift	Secure torque converter to prevent it from falling out.

		Installation:  Grease crankshaft journals at the torque converter lightly.

34.1	Perform transmission adaptation	Transmission adaptation must be performed after the transmission is changed or repaired.
