Removal & Installation

NOTE: Letters and numbers in parenthesis correspond to letters and numbers in illustrations.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Remove cooling fan ducts (1) upstream of air cleaner (2). See Fig 1 .
  3. Remove rack and pinion oil line bracket (20), if equipped. SeeFig 2 .
  4. Remove oil line level control bracket (21) at timing case, if equipped.
  5. Disconnect electrical connector (3) for the engine and A/C suction fan with integrated control (M4/7).
  6. Disconnect horn connector and remove horns (4).
  7. Remove 2 bolts holding steering oil cooler to front end crossmember (7).
  8. Remove power steering (5) line at front crossmember.
  9. Remove lower center bolts (8) from front end crossmember.
  10. Remove bolts (10) from both ends of the front end crossmember.
  11. Disconnect hood cable (11).
  12. Remove retaining clips (12) of air ducting.
  13. WARNING: Risk of scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. DO NOT open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 194°F (90°C). Open cap slowly and release pressure.
  14. Drain coolant. See appropriate SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING article in ENGINES.
  15. Push coolant line (13) out of fixture.
  16. Remove cable straps at front end crossmember.
  17. Disconnect electrical plug (15) on right hood lock.
  18. Remove front end crossmember together with hood cables. If the rubber mounts (19) are firmly attached in the radiator, remove bolts from retaining pins (9). Press the retaining brackets (14) together, unhook and remove front end cross member.
  19. On 209 chassis with 113 engines only, remove upper radiator hose at radiator. See MODEL IDENTIFICATION  .
  20. Press clamps (16) on both sides of the fan shroud and lift out fan shroud with cooling fan and integrated control unit.
  21. Installation is the reverse of removal procedure. Replace "O" ring on upper radiator hose. Ensure hood lock operates properly, adjust if necessary. Inspect hood gaps, if necessary adjust gap dimensions. See ADJUSTING HOOD GAP  under ADJUSTMENTS. After reconnecting battery cable perform resetting or normalization procedures. See RESETTING PROCEDURES  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Read out diagnostic trouble code memory with Hand Held Tester scan tool and erase trouble codes. See RETRIEVING & ERASING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
