- Remove interior protection system transmitter/receiver (A26/14) from old headliner (1) and disconnect electrical connector.
Installation: Install interior protection system transmitter/receiver (A26/14) only after routing new IRS wiring harness (9) on new headliner (1).
- Remove IRS installation frame (3) from old headliner (1), for this purpose remove clips (2), bend open mounting lugs and remove IRS installation frame (3).
- Lay new headliner (1) down on suitable clean subsurface.
- Shim new headliner (1) with suitable clean spacers, e.g. foam rubber or Styrofoam pads.
Do not use any hard or sharp-edge objects, otherwise the cover of the new headliner (1) can be damaged
The foam rubber and Styrofoam pads prevent the new headliner (1) from bending when performing the following steps.
- Measure position of holes (7) for mounting lugs (6) of old headliner (1) and transfer dimensions to new headliner (1)
- Shim new headliner (1) in area of holes (7) to be drilled with hard, clean pad and drill holes (7)
Use 5.0 mm dia. metal bit
- Drill hole for cable passage (4).
Use 10.0 mm dia. metal bit
- Turn new headliner (1).
- To drill holes (8) slide new IRS installation frame (3) into holes (7) with mounting lugs (6) and mark left and right hole (9) for new IRS installation frame (3) on cover of new headliner (1).
- Remove new IRS installation frame (3) and cut cover of new headliner (1) in area of markings with sharp knife
This prevents the cover of the new headliner (1) from being torn over a large surface by the drill when drilling through the headliner (1).
- Install new IRS installation frame (3) and bend over mounting lugs (6).
- Drill through new headliner (1) through left and right holes (9) in new IRS installation frame (3) and complete holes (8).
Use 4.5 mm dia. metal bit.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Press new clips through left and right hole (9) of new IRS installation frame (3) into new headliner (1) until new clips adhere sufficiently in holes (8)
