Determination of location is the calculation of the vehicle's current position. It is activated by opening the driver door or with "circuit 15R ON" and the calculation is carried out by the navigation processor in the radio and navigation unit (A2/56). During the switch-on phase the software is loaded and only basic position finding is available.

With "circuit 15C" all important position finding parameters are stored during a run-on time of 30 minutes.

To ensure very accurate and reliable position finding, three procedures, which mutually complement each other, are used for continuous position finding.

These methods are:

• Basic position finding
• Map-supported map matching
• Global Positioning System (GPS) position finding

For the manual input of the vehicle location, it is possible to enter the location manually at the radio and navigation unit (A2/56). This may be useful after the vehicle has been transported, if there is no GPS reception at the start of the journey.
