Block diagram of telephone system, illustrated with the following equipment:

The telephone system can be operated as follows:

The telephone radio signals are transmitted and received by the telephone antenna (A2/22) and amplified with the portable CTEL antenna amplifier (A28/2). The display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) shows when the telephone is in its ready status the destination field strengths in 5 grades. All control and useful signals (e.g. audio signals when hands-free system activated) are transferred via the digital data bus (D2B). For this reason, the portable CTEL (A34/6) requires the telephone interface (A34/4) to serve as the interface to the digital data bus (D2B).

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) has the following telephone functions:

Data transfer between COMAND and instrument cluster, function   GF82.85-P-3008R
  Telephone antenna, location/task   GF82.62-P-4105PP
