Charge air cooling system function - GF09.41-P-3104H
ENGINE 112.960 in MODEL 170.466
ENGINE 112.961 in MODELS 203.065 /265
The cylinder volumetric efficiency is improved by means of the charge air cooling (fuel consumption drops) as well as through low exhaust gas temperatures which reduce the NOX formation.
The charge air cooling has a separate coolant circuit (low temperature cooling circuit) with:
- Charge air cooler (110/2)
- Low temperature cooler (110/11)
- Charge air cooler circulation pump (M44)
The suctioned air warms up in the compressor due to the charging process. The charge air gives up its heat to coolant in the charge air cooler which is located directly after the compressor.
The warmed coolant is subsequently cooled in the low temperature cooler and then pumped back through the charge air cooler circulation pump to the charge air cooler where the coolant circulation starts again.
The charge air cooler recirculation pump is actuated directly by the ME control unit.
The charge air cooler circulation pump relay is located in:
Model 170 Cycling module (traction systems, RS, ATA, AAC)
Model 203 Rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module
The charge air temperature sensor (B17/8) detects the charge air temperature and the pressure sensor (B28) detects the boost pressure from the charge air cooler. Both information is passed on as voltage signals to the ME control unit.
