SUBJECT

CLEARING OF REED VALVE INSIDE AIR/WATER DUCT

SERVICE INFORMATION

This campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that the reed valve in the air/water duct may become clogged. Please perform this Service Campaign during the vehicle's next scheduled service visit. Refer to procedure on the next page for inspection and clearing of the reed valve.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign, please check VMI to ensure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.

PROCEDURE

Fig 1: Inspecting/Opening Clogged Reed Valve
G00275052
  1. Inspect reed valve (4, Fig 1 ) inside air/water duct (3) for clogging. If reed valve is clogged (dirt deposits seen on the reed valve and/or water is found inside air/water duct) proceed to steps 2 - 4.
  2. Open stuck reed valve petals (4, Fig 1 ) using rod (5 [shop made tool]): Insert longer end of rod (5) through the screen, then into the reed valve (4) until the mark on the rod is level with the air/water duct surface (to free the clog from the valve).
CAUTION: Inserting rod (5) beyond the mark (arrow) on the rod can cause damage to the paint.
NOTE: Refer to step 4 for fabrication of rod (shop made tool).
  3. Remove the rod (5, Fig 1 ) from the reed valve (4).
  4. Fabricate a rod (shop made tool) made of either wood, plastic or metal:
    • Cut an 8 mm diameter rod to a length of 50 cm.
    • Round the ends of the rod.
    • Apply a mark (arrow, Fig 2 ) on the rod at 20 cm, measured from either end.
