	Remove/Install
	Risk of death  cased by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.	Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.	AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
	Risk of explosion  caused by explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries	No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. 1	Turn key in electronic ignition lock EIS into position "0".	Key cannot be withdrawn.
2	Dismount ground line to the battery	Do not connect quiescent current retention unit. A short circuit could occur, if the electrical line circuit 30 (B+) comes into contact with the ground.	AR54.10-P-0003I
		Vehicles with Keyless-Go code 889: Switch off engine, remove Keyless-Go cards from the vehicle and store outside of transmitter range

3	Detach lower engine compartment paneling		AR61.20-P-1105M
4	Unscrew bolts (3		*BA15.30-P-1003-01A
5	Unscrew nuts (4) and remove electrical lines (1, 2)		*BA15.30-P-1001-01A

6	Take starter (M1) down and out
7.1	Check ring gear on the drive plate for wear and damage	When replacing the starter Rotate engine at the crankshaft in direction of rotation.
8	Install in the reverse order
9	Perform function check
10	Render electrical system operational	See ↓

11	Read diagnostic trouble code memory and erase	When the work is complete stored faults must be worked on in the diagnostic trouble code memories and erased. ↓
		Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS, interrogate fault memory	AD00.00-P-2000-04A
