Adjusting parking brake - AR42.20-P-0540IM

  Inspecting, setting     
DANGER Risk of death  cased by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
1 Check version of parking brake pedal assembly    
REFER TO COMPONENT MODIFICATIONS Parking brake pedal assembly modified   BT42.20-P-0510-01A
2 Operate parking brake pedal and check pedal travel of parking brake pedal IMPORTANT If the pedal travel is not within the tolerance range, adjust parking brake.  
    Actuating force on parking brake pedal *BE42.20-P-1001-01C 
    Notches through which the parking brake pedal must be depressed *BE42.20-P-1002-01C 
3 Lift vehicle with lifting platform until the wheels are clear    
4 Remove rear wheels.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary   AP40.10-P-4050Z
5 Loosen adjusting screw (89)

6 Using a suitable tool, turn the adjusting wheel (105a) until the brake shoes (103) touch the brake drum and the rear wheel no longer turns IMPORTANT Adjustment direction for applying the brake shoes (103):
Right side: Turn the adjusting wheel (105a) from the bottom upwards.
Left side: Turn the adjusting wheel (105a) from the top downwards.		  
7 Turn back the adjusting wheel (105a) until the rear wheel can be turned completely freely IMPORTANT Ensure that the adjusting wheel (105a) is turned back by the same number of teeth (10 to 11 teeth) on both sides.  
8 Screw in adjusting screw (89) until front brake cable (85) and rear brake cables (85) no longer sag    
9 Operate parking brake pedal several times and check pedal travel of parking brake pedal IMPORTANT If the pedal travel is not within the tolerance range, readjust parking brake at adjusting screw (89) at cable slack adjuster (91) until the correct number of notches is achieved at the pedal: ↓  
    Actuating force on parking brake pedal *BE42.20-P-1001-01C 
    Notches through which the parking brake pedal must be depressed *BE42.20-P-1002-01C 
10 Check that the rear wheels can turn freely    
11 Mount rear wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary   AP40.10-P-4050Z
