Figure item, etc. Work instructions
DANGER Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury caused  by brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes. Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A
IMPORTANT Notes on handling brake fluid   AH42.50-P-0001-01A
IMPORTANT Notes on repairs to brake system   AH42.00-P-0003-01A
IMPORTANT The brake fluid reservoir must not be completely drained so that no air enters the system. If the brake fluid reservoir is completely emptied, the entire bleeding procedure must be repeated.
The brake system can only be bled with two persons.

1 Remove wiper arms
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Remove and install wiper arm   AR82.30-P-6100M
2 Remove water repellent IMPORTANT The water deflector is attached with 4 expansion rivets.
3 Record fluid level of brake fluid reservoir
4 Switch off ignition
5 Unscrew brake circuit reservoir cap (10c) and extract brake fluid down to a fluid level of approx. 10 mm
6 Connect brake fluid changing equipment to plug on brake circuit (10c) and switch on IMPORTANT Pay attention to manufacturer's operating instructions. Bleed pressure approx. 2 bar.
Brake fluid changing equipment, see GOTIS http://gotis.aftersales.daimlerchrysler.com

7 Replace brake fluid at the rear axle IMPORTANT Start at the brake caliper with the longest feed line.
Exert pressure on brake pedal and open bleed screw while fully depressing the brake pedal. Close bleed screw again and gradually release brake pedal.
Repeat procedure until the fresh brake fluid emerges free of bubbles (approx. 200 cm3 ).

TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bleed screw to brake caliper *BA42.10-P-1002-12G
8 Replace brake fluid at the front axle IMPORTANT Start at the brake caliper with the longest feed line.
Exert pressure on brake pedal and open bleed screw while fully depressing the brake pedal. Close bleed screw again and gradually release brake pedal.
Repeat procedure until the fresh brake fluid emerges free of bubbles (approx. 200 cm3 ).

TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bleed screw to brake caliper *BA42.10-P-1002-10G
9 Replace brake fluid for brake booster hydraulic unit via the brake circuit bleed screw (11b) IMPORTANT Exert pressure on brake pedal and open bleed screw while fully depressing the brake pedal. Close bleed screw again and gradually release brake pedal.
Repeat procedure until the fresh brake fluid emerges free of bubbles (approx. 200 cm 3 ).

IMPORTANT Bleed screw on brake booster hydraulic unit *BA42.50-P-1001-01B
10 Switch off brake fluid changing equipment and disconnect from plug on brake circuit (10c)
11 Unscrew booster circuit reservoir cap (10d) and fill container without pressure IMPORTANT Do not connect brake fluid changing equipment yet.
12 Connect brake fluid changing equipment to plug on booster circuit (10d) and switch on IMPORTANT Pay attention to manufacturer's operating instructions. Bleed pressure approx. 2 bar. Brake fluid changing equipment, see GOTIS http://gotis.aftersales.daimlerchrysler.com
13 Switch on ignition and switch off brake fluid changing equipment simultaneously IMPORTANT The booster circuit pump starts up.
14 Once the booster circuit pump is switched off, fully depress the brake pedal approx. 10 times as far as the stop IMPORTANT Booster circuit pump starts up again.
15 After repeated shut-off of booster circuit pump, drain brake fluid in hydraulic unit via bleed screw of booster circuit (11a) while pressing the brake pedal and fill in new fluid. NOTES Carefully open booster circuit bleed screw (11a) (high pressure). Secure bleed hose to prevent it from slipping.
16 Close booster circuit bleed screw (11a) again and slowly ease off brake pedal. IMPORTANT Repeat procedure until the fresh brake fluid emerges free of bubbles.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bleed screw on brake booster hydraulic unit *BA42.50-P-1001-01B
17 Switch off ignition
18 Disconnect brake fluid changing equipment
19 Relieve the pressure in the reservoir; for this purpose, depress the brake pedal 30 times as far as the stop IMPORTANT While actuating the brake pedal, check the fluid level in the reservoir; interrupt actuation and extract brake fluid if necessary.
20 Correct brake fluid levels in brake fluid reservoir IMPORTANT Booster circuit (11d) up to "MAX" The fluid level may drop below the "MIN" mark when the ignition is switched on.
Brake circuit (10c) between "MAX" and "MIN" depending on the condition of the brake disks and brake linings.

21 Screw on cap
