C230, C280, C43, Cl500 (1999), CLK320, CLK430, S320, S420, S500 (1999) & SLK230

Check ball point position with wheels in straight ahead position. See BALL POINT POSITION SPECIFICATION  table. If ball point position is not in specification, adjust as necessary. Adjust ball point position by moving steering idler arm on bearing tube. See Fig 1 . If ball point position cannot be adjusted at bearing tube, adjust by offsetting splined section of pitman arm shaft. See Fig 2 . If vehicle is suspected of being involved in an accident, ensure basic setting dimension between idler arm and bearing tube. If ball point position is off by 5 mm or more, check idler arm bearing.
